A brand new organic strain produced under the Curaleaf brand, Permanent Fumez or Cura-PFZ 23%. I was intrigued when I saw these genetics appear on the formulary due to the Permanent Marker lineage. However, with it being a Cura brand, I was a little hesitant as to what to expect. However, as soon as I ripped the seal I was hit with that familiar 'sharpie' funk. But how does it vape? What's the cure like? I jump into all of this below, so let's check it out!

Introduction
As is often the case, I went to re order my prescription and it was out of stock. But not all is lost as this gives me a chance to try something new. With the curaleaf forumlary being somewhat dominated by their own brand, and it being a while since i'd tried them I thought i'd give this a go.
Being familiar with the Permanent marker strain, I was excited to see something related appear and hopeful it hadn't fallen to the previous woes of dull/ muted terps as other strains from this range can sometimes.
What I will day I was pleasantly suprised on the nose when openning up, but not so much on the eyes.
So let's jump into this strain, it's terpene profile, cure, effects and over all impressions.

This was sourced legally via prescription to myself with chronic pain being the primary condition this is used for. I hope my feedback here is useful for you to make an informed choice on future prescriptions, or to avoid it depending on your needs. I always welcome feedback in terms of other specific points I could cover in these reviews. Please keep in mind that i'm not a medical professional and these are no more than my personal anecdotal experiences.
The way this strain is being discussed is with relation to a chronic pain prescription relating to nerve pain and severe headaches, though it has also proven helpful beyond these treatments.

Outcome:
The strain is a little brittle out of the bag as it arrives without the humidity pack in place, but this improved after a few days. Having said that, this didn't translate negatively into the vapour.
The pungent flavour comes through strong followed by a smooth end that is satisfying throughout the dose. All of my devices performed well with this, though i'll admit the GT4 had the edge through the iceborn for quick doses.
Initial observation upon opening (nug shape/ density/ cure and shake content):
First impressions were very mixed. I could smell it as soon as I ripped the bag, and was met with a very pleasant and familiar gassy tone. Nugs were on the smaller side of things with some popcorn nugs.
The brittle nature of the cure meant that there was a small but notable amount of shake present in the bag.
Visually the buds look alright, though they did have some chunky leaves in place on a fair few.
Nug density was uniform, and can only imagine how much stronger the smell would have been when freshly cured.

How Accessible Is The Bag/ Pot?
I've decided to introduce this category to our medical strain reviews this year. With more and more producers and updating packaging from previous brands coming out, we have been getting more and more feedback about some of the pesky child safety precautions.
Now let me start off with the fact that having these features is important! However, for some patients with dexterity issues, or those who may struggle when needing a dose quickly, these can become a bit of a hurdle.
So I thought I would include which type of mechanism if any each strain uses. Obviously they could swap packaging out on future batches but for the most part i'm guessing they'll be quite consistent. So if these are issues for you it'll help you avoid anything you find troublesome.
What type of safety feature does it have?
The Permanent Fumez comes in one of the most accesible bag options. You simply have to ensure you pull on both sides as there's a loose flap on one side. Grab either side and open like a packet of crisps!
Any improvement after storage change and curing?
The cure on this flower is very similar to other Cura strains i've had in the past. It's alot better than things used to be, but could also be better. Arriving a little brittle without the humidity pack contributed towards this. So naturally reintroducing some of the moisture back and balancing that cure it helped not only the vapour but overall expression of the remaining terps.
I do personaly find that glass jars are always better than mylar bags or tubs, so did find a slight improvement after a few days being transfered out. This strain in particular benefited from this after 3-4 days with a humidity pack in these jars.

Context: I’m prescribed for chronic nerve pain with severe headaches that is accompanied by nausea/ gastro issues at times. I work full time and have a young family. As such, I have to find the balance between managing pain/ symptoms, and being functional in my various responsibilities.
In turn, the split between a day time and night time strain gives me that ability to address deeper pains in the evenings where it may be more sedating, whilst using a more uplifting/ cerebral strain for day time to help get me through without any unwanted side effects. This has been key to me taking back my life and maintaining better quality of life all in.
Getting into it
Permanent Fumez bursts through the door with it's bold gassy profile that will be all too familiar for many of you. It reminds me of some of the classic old Amsterdam strains from mid 2000s yet with a more complex almost fruity tone on the back end.
Though the cure could be improved upon, I was actually surprised upon vaping at how smooth it was as well as how long the terpenes remained whilst vaping.
As a 23% strain this sits as a daytime strain for me, but could easily be used as an evening one in higher doses. It is balanced really well effects wise for me personally helping with break through pain as and when I need it in the daytime.
Having been relying on a few 31% strains for my evenings, it has been nice to have something lower still manage to maintain comfort for me in the evenings.

How Does It Grind?
Despite appearing a little on the dry side it didn't turn to dust in the grinder showing a decent balance of moisture in the core of the nugs. This improved further after a few days in a curing jar.
But overall straight out of the bag the flower expresses itself really well in the grinder. With plenty of room between a bouncy course grind and fine end result leaving it up to you to dial it in exactly as you prefer.
The profile shines beautifully after a grind as well which I would highly recommend taking note of to get the full profile on the nose.

For reference we usually include a batch number. Some strains have varied over time, often for the better. So we figured it's best to have a reference point for when we reviewed this for context.

Every bag I have had so far has been from the same batch. The consistency in cure/ bud trim and profile has remained across all of these. When I encounter a different batch I will return and provide any relevant updates here.
Throat issues/ catching/ allergies?:
In the past I have had hay fever like symptoms with a scratchy throat/ runny eyes and sneezing around loading my device or vaping certain strains. After a recent brain operation, avoiding coughing is a big priority for me to help reduce pressure. So I take note whether this is an issue on my reviews incase anyone else has the same problem!
I have experienced none of these issues with this strain!

4C Ultra Sour
One of my current favourites for day time. Ultra sour packs a productive punch enabling me to carry on with my day whilst managing my symptoms.
The terpene profile is so familiar with a nod back to super lemon haze and RED no2 for those who remember Spectrum from back in the day!

What an incredible strain profile, this offering from Peace Naturals has been a welcome addition to my prescription.
The grapefruit shines through beautifully and makes a great balanced strain from afternoon through to evening for me.
Curaleaf Medical Inhaler Que Pod system Review
Curaleafs latest offering is their brand new medical inhaler device. Essentially a battery system designed to use their new pre filled pods for medically prescribed medical cannabis extracts. I have broken down the ins and outs of the new device and pods to compare to the previous traditional 510 thread carts that were on offer.
Overall impression
I feel as though it was a bit of a rollercoaster with this strain. Opened the bag and immediately loved the smell, checked out the buds/ cure and was a little hesitant about what to expect.
However, this all changed in the grinder and beyond. Despite appearing a little sad and dryer than could be, it perks up well in the grinder and translates beautifully to vapour.
I would consider this one of the better day time strains for myself as of late, but will effective additional effects to carry me through the evening if need be.
Those who are fans of the Permanent Marker strain will be a fan of this, though i'm sure like me they would love just a little more terp preservation (As always right?)
At this price point, and the fact that it's so effective for break through pain I would recommend giving this a go. Can it compete with some of the other producers we're seeing, perhaps not, but that doesn't mean it doesn't hold it's place as a solid choice on the curaleaf formulary.
