Properly cleaning your dry herb vape could slash your replacement part costs by up to 50% [1]. I know it sounds almost too good to be true, but hear me out. Those screens and dosing caps you keep replacing? They could easily last twice as long with just a bit of regular care. I for one have been guilty of throwing the odd screen away after one cycle despite it taking minimum effort to save it and recycle it.
Maybe you've been there, pulling out your vaporiser only to think "this needs a clean but i'll do it next time". Or perhaps you've noticed that nutty reclaim taste creeping into what should be a smooth fresh terpy session [2]. When you spend a lot on a dry herb vape, you want to get the best out of it every time. Not to mention, protecting your lung health by ensuring there are no nasties creeping into your air ways.
The reality is this, over your dry herb vapes life cycle, that small investment in proper maintenance pays back in ways you'll genuinely feel. Better sessions, peace of mind you're doing everything you can for your lung health, and that money staying in your pocket from avoiding replacement cooling units and making disposables last longer [1].
What you'll find here isn't just another cleaning tutorial. This is your roadmap to getting every ounce of value from your device, ensuring each session delivers the consistent, flavourful experience you deserve [2].
Ready to bring your vape back to life? Let's dive into exactly how to make that happen.
Why proper maintenance is so important

Regular cleaning of your dry herb vape could save you up to 50% on replacement parts. You can double the lifespan of components like screens and mouthpieces through proper maintenance. Let's be honest, medical cannabis is expensive enough as it is, so every little saving helps. Not to mention, adding life to your device for longer.
Your dry herb vapes cleaning schedule will vary depending on your usage. Someone putting 1-2 grams through it a day will need to clean theirs more often than someone who only vapes a few days a week, or uses a lot less flower. So learning when to spot it's time is important. In some devices it's more obvious than others.
Poor maintenance creates problems that are systemic, uneven heating, compromised taste, reduced vapour production in some cases, reduced airflow, and in extreme cases total device malfunction. So by staying ahead of things, not only can you ensure you're having the best experience possible with your device, but you'll also avoid wasting money on a replacement sooner than you need to.
This piece shows you everything you need to clean your dry herb vaporizer with our step-by-step processes that are pretty universal. You'll learn how to get the most from your investment while enjoying consistent vapour quality. Let's restore your vape's performance to like-new condition!

What You Need To Clean Your Dry Herb Vape
The truth about cleaning supplies? You probably already have most of what you need sitting around your home or available in nearby shops. But let me save you from the frustration I've seen countless people experience when they dive in unprepared, only to realise they're missing something crucial halfway through.
Your absolute essential is isopropyl alcohol, and here's where concentration matters. You want the strong stuff: 91-99% concentration. It cuts through that sticky, stubborn residue like nothing else and eliminates any lurking bacteria. I see customers opt for 70% and they often find it harder to dry their pieces out due to the water content. Higher strength iso evaporates naturally and easily at room temperature (In a well ventilated area!).
Though with ISO there's a mistake that could cost you: never, ever use this on wooden components. I've watched people accidentally ruin beautiful wooden parts this way, and it's heartbreaking because the damage is often permanent.
Here's what belongs in your cleaning arsenal:
1. Cotton swabs or Q-tips (get the ones with pointed tips—trust me, you'll need them for those impossible corners. Also without any nasty chemicals on the cotton)
2. Pipe cleaners or small firm brushes
3. Paper towels or microfibre cloths to place things on
4. A small container for soaking (mason jars work brilliantly, or even resealable bags)
5. Warm water
Want to take things up a notch?
Specialised tools like ZEUS Bristle Pipe Cleaners or Glob Mops XL with bendable stems can be game-changers for those tricky internal pathways.
Pre-soaked alcohol wipes (70-75% concentration) are perfect for quick touch-ups between proper deep cleans.
Gloves - Try as you might, reclaim always seems to find it's way onto your skin. It's not the end of the world, but if you prefer to not have to scrub it off you can use gloves for this process. It will also help to avoid drying your skin out if it comes in contact with isopropyl alochol.
If alcohol isn't your thing, specialised vaporiser cleaning solutions do exist. And for those precious wooden parts? Stick to warm water and a soft cloth. A occasional treat with wood wax keeps them looking and feeling their best. If they don't have instructional guides and you're struggling with reclaim, you can use another food safe oil to dilute the reclaim and then use hot water and soap to remove the oil. It's just really important to remove all of the oils once complete.
The secret is having everything ready before you start. Nothing kills motivation quite like discovering you're missing something essential when you're already elbow-deep in the process and your fingers are sticking together with resin.
Pro Tip/ Heads Up:
The resin/ reclaim that you'll encounter is ridiculously sticky. It's like a hard sweet when cool, but at body temp it will melt onto your skin with ease. This can be an absolute pain to get off without the right stuff. Using iso wipes is fine, but if you don't want to rub alcohol on your skin or you can use another oil to absorb/ dilute it and then wash it off. I use olive oil for this.
Warning!
Isopropyl alochol is incredibly dangerous. Avoid getting it on your skin as it can dry out and crack your skin, certainly don't drink it and most of all be aware of the fact it is extremely flammable. Not only is the liquid flammable, but it evaporates very easily and the fumes are flammable. So work with this in a well ventilated area, with no open flames/ ignition points nearby. When used safely, it's easy and safe to use. Just don't hurt yourself by being daft with it please!

Conclusion
Your vape and health deserves to be looked after, and let's be honest every little saving we can make helps with the costs of our prescriptions.
With a proper routine each draw becomes what it was always meant to be, rich and clean, without that lingering bitterness of buildup.
The truth is, those fifteen minutes you'll spend every week or two aren't just maintenance time. They're an investment in countless future moments when your device works exactly as it should, delivering the pure experience you're seeking without frustration or compromise.
Keep your cleaning essentials within easy reach, that high-strength isopropyl alcohol, those trusty cotton swabs, the pipe cleaners that reach every corner. These simple tools become your allies in preserving what matters most about your sessions.
Safety isn't negotiable here. Wood and alcohol don't mix, patience with cooling down saves electronics, and that final burn-off cycle ensures you taste nothing but what you intended. These aren't just steps, they're the difference between a device that serves you well and one that lets you down.
What strikes me most about proper vape maintenance is how it mirrors caring for anything worthwhile in life. Show up consistently, handle with respect, and the rewards extend far beyond what you initially expected. Your device responds with reliability, your sessions improve dramatically, and your wallet thanks you month after month.
The cleaning might feel like a chore initially, but soon you'll recognise it for what it really is, a small act of self-care that ensures your investment continues delivering exactly what you need, session after session, for years to come.

Meet our Writer/ Owner
My journey into medical cannabis and CBD began from personal experience, and seeing first hand how effective it can be. After experiencing the benefits firsthand, I knew I wanted to be part of this transformative industry when we launched back in 2018.
Since then, we've built something I'm genuinely proud of: our own range of lab-tested CBD products, FSA Novel Food validation, and purpose-built manufacturing facilities here in Wales—all with a carbon-neutral footprint.
Over the years, I've had the privilege of delivering educational talks across the UK for patient support groups and private organizations, as well as providing consultation services on workplace/ HR support, product development, and regulatory compliance.
Whether you're exploring medical cannabis for the first time or looking to deepen your understanding of CBD, I'm here to share what I've learned—and I'm always happy to help however I can.
