We Interviewed A UK Medical Cannabis Importer | Interviewing MedCan!
With my unique position of working in this industry, whilst also being a medical cannabis patient myself, I wanted to use my access to produce a series of interviews with other industry pros.
We reached out to one of the most active UK medical cannabis patient communities online and asked what questions they would like answered. So we took these questions straight to the CEO of Medcan for this first part of this series!
We hope this interview helps shed light on what it takes to produce flower for the UK market, and to help set the stage for future interviews coming out soon!

Our Community-Driven Interview Series with UK Medical Cannabis Industry Leaders
Introduction - Interviewing MedCan
So this has been a long time coming! I must apologise to those who've been waiting on this, i had a major brain operation earlier this year and it's taken me a while to get back on my feet with all of our projects. So i'm glad to finally have this out after all of the hard work, and the community who put the questions forward for this interview!
So without further delay, let me introduce the first in our series of Meidcal Cannabis Industry interviews.
We put a post up on the Reddit R/UKMedicalCannabis to see what questions other patients would like to ask the pros if they had a chance. From there we compiled these questions and began reaching out to members of the industry to arrange interviews to help shed light on what it takes to work in this space.
This is the first episode, and with the geneorisity of Micael from Medcan, we drove down to London for the day to produce this interview.
We hope you enjoy the chat that we've had, we covered many bases ranging from where they started, what it takes to get a job in the medical cannabis space all the way up to technical questions about their grow, curing and importing processes.

The interview is broken down into two sections. Our intro questions, and the community driven questions.

Who are you and where did MedCan begin?
Where did you start in terms of sourcing genetics and developing your strain?
Are Medcan looking into other strains aside from Tokoloshe Sherbet?
Why did Medcan choose a non irradiated process vs other suppliers who irradiate their flower?
What hurdles does choosing a non irradiated process involve vs non irradiated?
Do you have any advice for people in the UK looking to work in the medical cannabis industry or as a professional grower?

We enjoyed sititng down and having this chat with Micael, though the video is edited to shorten the odd gap between questions, you really do see our full conversation in this edit. There was nothing to hide, or avoid and Micael was very welcoming when it came to the questions we put forward.
We came away from the interview happy to have been able to put a face to the name with a product that I myself use on prescription. The attention to detail, and focus on overcoming compliance hurdles whilst still prioritising a non irradiated process is admirable in this landscape. So to see this passion translate in person was great.
A lot has changed since we sat down and had this chat, and a lot more suppliers are now on the UK market. So it's interesting to compare and contrast these answers with what we have seen come forward since then.
Though there are certainly leaps in terms of other strains now available on the UK market. We haven't seen a major surge in suppliers opting for non irradiated yet, so these questions answered here are really insightful as to why so many still avoid this process, but begs the question that if MedCan can do it, why aren't many others given all of this time?

Meet The Interviewer
Rowan is one of the founders of Infinity CBD and Pembrokeshire CBD Centre. Having worked in the CBD/ Cannabis industry for over five years, he has extensive knowledge of the supply chain issues, compliance and other fun things you have to contend with from the corporate side of all of this. However, having also been a patient for 4+ years he has also seen first hand of the ups and downs of the patient experience, quality woes and what to generally expect.
These medical cannabis reviews are presented to try and form a balanced and honest opinion relating to his experience and understanding of the limitations the clinics/ pharmacies and producers face with trying to navigate compliance standards that compete with perceived quality of some products.
Everyone is different, and Rowan is prescribed for specific conditions and is provided these prescription legally by a Dr who has been working alongside him to find the best treatments.
